The Penang Diocesan Catechetical Commission (PDCC) held its Annual Gathering of Evangelizing Catechists at the Taiping Catholic Church on 1 May 2024 with a total of 358 registered participants comprising Evangelising Catechists (Catechism and the RCIA) and a number of discerning Catholics interested in the Catechetical Ministry. The theme was Catechesis and the Holy Spirit and a series of three talks was conducted concurrently in four languages with a 45-minute prayer session on the Holy Spirit. The speakers were Rev Fr Gerard S. Theraviam (English), Sr. Dariah Ajab FSIC (Bahasa Malaysia), Rev. Fr. John Anandan OFM Cap (Tamil) and Mr Anthony Ng (Mandarin).
There is a paradigm shift in the way catechesis should be dealt with today. This was brought to light when the Penang Diocesan Catechetical Commission (PDCC) conducted an online course to expose its ‘evangelising catechists’ to the new Directory for Catechesis (DC).
A retreat for catechists themed Proclaiming Jesus as the Hope of the World was held April 22-23 at the Minor Basilica of St Anne, Bukit Mertajam. It was organised by the Penang Diocesan Catechetical Commission (PDCC).
Parents, students and catechism teachers of the Taiping Catholic Church (TCC) came together for a talk presented by Deacon Clement Samuel.
PDCC is the official body that oversee the development of Catechesis in the Diocese of Penang, Malaysia.
